AMMS was selected by Delorean Corporation to supply a Low-Pressure Injection Skid for the SA1 Salisbury Bioenergy Plant in Adelaide.
The job: facilitate custody transfer of biomethane from SA1 into the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) distribution network in South Australia — the commercial gateway between the plant and the grid.
The plant: SA1 converts commercial and industrial food waste into mains-grade biomethane, generating Renewable Gas Guarantees of Origin certificates under GreenPower’s certification scheme.
Why it matters: every certificate SA1 earns will pass through the injection point. The metering skid isn’t a component — it’s where renewable gas becomes revenue.

The path from upgraded biogas to network injection — and where the timeline usually slips.

By the time a biomethane project is funded, the hard engineering questions feel answered: feedstock, digestion, upgrading. Then the connection process starts, and a new set of questions arrives that has nothing to do with making gas and everything to do with selling it.
1. The network operator sets the specification
Your gas enters someone else’s asset. The network operator’s gas quality requirements, pressure regime and connection process govern the design — and engaging them early is the single biggest schedule protection available to a producer.
2. The connection agreement defines the commercial boundary
Where custody transfers, how energy is measured, and who owns which flange are contractual questions with engineering consequences. The metering point is where your product becomes their throughput — and where your revenue is counted.
3. The grid entry unit does the work
Metering to custody transfer standard, pressure control, quality monitoring and protection — packaged at the injection point. This is the equipment decision, and the choice is between a bespoke design engineered from scratch or a standardised unit already proven against network requirements.
4. Certification turns molecules into revenue
Under GreenPower’s Renewable Gas Certification scheme, injected biomethane generates certificates — but only what is properly measured at the custody transfer point is counted. Metering integrity is certificate integrity.
The pattern across Australian projects is consistent: the connection is rarely the most expensive part of a project, but it is the part most likely to sit on the critical path at the end, when there is no schedule left to give.

Most instruments on a gas site inform decisions. One instrument settles money. The custody transfer meter is the cash register of a gas project: every joule that crosses it is bought, sold, or certified on its word.
Why custody transfer metering is different
Because two parties settle against it, custody transfer measurement carries obligations ordinary process metering never faces: agreed accuracy, verifiable calibration, and equipment both sides — producer and network — can trust without argument.
What that means at the injection point
The measurement system, the gas quality analysis and the pressure control all have to hold up commercially, not just operationally. A dispute at the custody transfer point isn’t an engineering inconvenience — it’s an invoice dispute.
The renewable gas twist
Certification schemes add a third party to the transaction: the certificate registry. For a biomethane producer, the custody transfer point now underwrites two revenue streams — the gas and the certificates — which makes getting it right once, to a proven standard, worth more than ever.
